Philadelphia, PA – Team Colavita|Bianchi participated in the prestigious Philadelphia International Cycling Classic World Cup this past Sunday afternoon in downtown Philadelphia, PA. This Woman’s World Cup event, the first in the United States since 2001, lived up to it’s prestigious billing and showed the world just how exciting woman’s racing can be. The race took the main stage at 12:30pm with fans already lined up throughout the 12.3 mile circuit from the Pro men’s race which finished up just prior to the start of the woman’s race. The famed Manayunk Wall proved to splinter the field each of the six laps up the climb. The first several times up were rather pedestrian, but when the race got serious on the fourth trip, a significant gap was formed by the bigger teams. This move widdled the field to a select group of approximately 30 riders. With a small, four-rider squad the Colavita|Bianchi team was strategic in their approach and was able to help Mary Zider take a top 20 finish.
On the other side of the US, Erica Allar and Morgan Brown defended the NCC individual and team classifications by taking 3rd and 6th place respectively at The Manhattan Beach Gran Prix. Erica Allar continues to lead the individual classification and will look to further increase her lead this weekend at the three-day Saint Francis Tulsa Tough, in Tulsa, OK. Racing starts Friday night with the McNellie’s Blue Dome Criterium at 7:55pm. Racing will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the River Parks Criterium which includes many trips up the crowd packed, street party called, “Cry Baby Hill”.
