Team Kicks off Season with Winter Training Camp and Looks to Dominate the NCC in 2015!

Team Training Camp - Clermont, FL (Left to Right: Mary Zider, Jessi Prinner, Morgan Brown, Erica Allar, Katie Donovan, Jessica Cutler, Whitney Schultz) Clermont, FL - Team Colavita|Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking Women’s Pro Team came together in Clermont, Florida, for their winter training camp and the official start of the 2015 season. The team camp took place near Darden Restaurants’ headquarters located in Orlando, Florida. One of the team’s main sponsors, Olive Garden, is part of the Darden family of full-service dining restaurants.

Team camp focused on outfitting each rider with the latest equipment, getting them set up with Bianchi Sempre Pro Carbon Fiber frames and Bianchi Pico Crono Mono D2 time trial bikes. Team members were able to spend time riding with sponsors, as well with some local area riders. Perhaps most importantly, team camp provided a valuable opportunity for the riders to spend needed time together, interacting and beginning the growing process to become a pro cycling “family.” Team chemistry is considered a critical success factor by the Colavita|Bianchi team, and the ladies were able to bond in numerous positive ways. The Colavita cycling program has always been about fostering excellence in teamwork, group morale, determination, passion for the sport and leadership by example in ways that benefit and motivate up-and-coming female athletes, while also exciting fans across the country.

Mary Zider, new Directeur, Sportif, has high expectations for the 2015 squad. According to Zider, “In many ways this camp represented the most important seven days of our season. Bringing our ladies together in a positive bonding experience is vital to our success. We spent quality time as a team establishing our core values - committing to them individually and with a sense of team accountability that will help drive our success. We began the essential process of becoming a cycling family of sorts this past week, and each rider expressed their willingness to work hard and make the necessary sacrifices to ‘hold the rope’ in order to achieve our success. This season, we will be focusing on defending our 1st Place Overall Title in the National Criterium Calendar (NCC) while also supporting our sprint specialist, Erica Allar, as she defends her NCC title for the fourth consecutive season. We will work hard to win every race that we enter. However, some races will suit our collective strengths more than others. Each rider on our team is very valuable and each one has the potential to do something great in any given race. Having so many options is really a director’s dream and I can’t wait to get started!”

The team not only spent important time on their new bikes, but they completed a number of private yoga sessions at Harrow Yoga (www.harrowyoga.com) with instructor Jamie Harrow. Jamie worked with the team on stretching, breathing and helping each rider learn how to find the balance between body and mind when preparing and competing. Further, the team was thrilled to have Selene Yeager, editor of Bicycling Magazine, join their camp for an inside perspective on what really happens during a pro cycling team training camp. Additionally, a lot of time was devoted to learning the important ins-and-outs of healthy cooking and eating clean with newly appointed “Team Chef” Amanda Shission.  Yeager was able to capture how the team prepares for  pre- and post-ride meals and snacks with wholesome ingredients.  A copy of her Bicycling Magazine article titled, “Fueling Secrets of the Pro’s,” is available at www.teamcolavita.com/fueling-secrets-of-the-pros.
