Team Colavita|Bianchi on the podium at Gateway Cup - Final Weekend Roster Announced!
Edison, NJ - Team Colavita|Bianchi completed four days of racing in St. Louis, MO at the Staenberg Gateway Cup over Memorial Day weekend. Gateway Cup has historically drawn the top female racers in the country, and this year was no exception. Team Colavita|Bianchi has a well deserved reputation for racing hard and assertively and many teams look to play off of this approach. Colavita|Bianchi was on form for days 1 and 2 but had no fruit to show for it's labors. It wasn't until day 3 on "The Hill" at the Giro Della Montagna that Colavita|Bianchi was able to really see their hard work pay off. UHC and IScorp were equally as aggressive, and neither team was willing to back off the throttle at this stage of the weekend. What Colavita|Bianchi lacked in a sprinter they certainly made up for in grit and tactics. Jessica Cutler found herself in a late race move that took the pressure of the peloton and Team Colavita until a mishap by another rider in the break took out the move which then caused the field to become disrupted. It was at this point Emma Grant landed in the wining move with a UHC and Tibco rider. The three rider break quickly gained time on the field and held this gap steady until the final laps of the race when riders got serious about the move, working to bring it back. The gap continually grew smaller, but time was running out for the peloton. In a nail bitter of a finish, the break finished just seconds ahead of the charging peloton, where Emma Grant was able to snag a third place finish.
Colavita|Bianchi will wrap up the 2015 season with the final two races on the National Criterium Calendar (NCC) this Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Saturday's race is the seventh annual Boston Mayors Cup in downtown Boston, MA and Sunday's race will finish up on a new course in Hartford, CT at the Connecticut Cycling Festival.
