Women's Professional Cycling Team Headlines 2016 Farm to Fork Fondo
Iconic Italian brands Colavita and Bianchi come together to support bicycle event series and local farms
Wrenegade Sports announced this week the details of its partnerships with Colavita and Bianchi for the 2016 Farm to Fork Fondo series. The iconic Italian brands are premier sponsors of the participatory bicycle event series that supports and highlights the symbiotic relationship between cyclists, local farms and beautiful open space.
The Colavita | Bianchi Women’s Professional Cycling Team will participate in each of the 2016 Farm to Fork Fondo events: Hudson Valley; Vermont; Pennsylvania Dutch; and Maine. The approachable members of the professional team will interact with the everyday athlete participants by: conducting bicycle skills clinics; leading the mass-start rides; and offering numerous meet and greet opportunities throughout each event weekend. “The team really looks forward to community events like these,” said Team Colavita | Bianchi director Mary Zider. “The Colavita cycling program has always been about fostering excellence and sharing passion for the sport. On the bike interactions with participants at Farm to Fork Fondo allow our riders to lead by example in ways that benefit and motivate up-and-coming female athletes, everyday cycling enthusiasts, and our fans across the country.”
Colavita Italian specialty foods will be featured at all the events, paired with fresh ingredients from local farms at pre and post-ride meals and on-course aid stations. “There couldn’t be a more perfect cycling venue for Colavita to be affiliated with than the Farm to Fork series,” stated John Profaci, Vice President Director of Marketing at Colavita USA. “We are thrilled to be involved with these events!”
Eight Bianchi bicycles will be raffled to Farm to Fork Fondo participants - one Bianchi Impulso and one Bianchi C-Sport Uno at each event for a total value of more than $8,000. 100% of raffle ticket proceeds will be donated to local farms and charitable farm organizations. Participants riding Bianchi bicycles will also be eligible for special Bianchi prizes. “We're proud to be a part of this event series that brings together so many great aspects of the cycling experience...great food, fitness, and beautiful countryside,” Said Jim Stevenson, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Bianchi USA. “And we're really fortunate to have the Colavita | Bianchi Womens' Professional Cycling Team at Farm to Fork Fondo as they are great ambassadors for our bikes and for the sport in general."
“We are very excited to extend our partnerships with Colavita, Bianchi and Team Colavita | Bianchi for 2016,” said Wrenegade Sports founder and former Team Colavita professional cyclist Tyler Wren. “Supporting local agriculture and the farm-to-table movement are both strong Italian traditions, so we could not imagine better specialty food, bicycle and professional cycling team partners for our boutique Farm to Fork Fondo series.”

A long time ago in the quaint hilltop village of Sant’Elia a Pianisi, located in the Molise region of Italy, two small family businesses were born. One family operated a stone mill for crushing homegrown olives used to produce fine extra virgin olive oil. The other family gathered the durum wheat harvest, milled the wheat into semolina grain and ultimately produced fresh pasta for the local market. Over time, both families became experts at their trade, passing their knowledge to the next generation, who in turn did the same. The two families had much in common not only in perfecting time-honored production methods, but also in name. They were both Colavita families.
Today, the Colavita Olive Oil and Colavita Pasta companies are still family-owned and operating in the same town of their ancestors. They have since joined with another family-owned company, Colavita USA of Edison, New Jersey, and together they have shared the fruits of their respective crafts with American consumers for over twenty years. Bianchi is the world’s oldest bicycle-manufacturing company, celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2015. The company was founded in Italy in 1885 and throughout its modern era, Bianchi has been associated with legendary Giro d’Italia and Tour de France winners.
Bianchi’s iconic and enduring celeste green color has many stories behind it. One tale spins it as the turquoise color of Milan’s sky, another suggests that it was the eye color of the former queen of Italy for whom Eduardo Bianchi made a bicycle. However it came to be, the color has become the brand’s signature and is worn today by the women of the Colavita | Bianchi Professional Cycling Team. Learn more at BianchiUSA.com.
